Better results without contralateral aid?

Enquiry: When a child gets significantly poorer results for sentence discrimination with an implant and hearing aid together than with the implant alone what are the possible reasons? Would this make him a better or worse candidate for a sequential implant? Could there be an element of APD associated with the result? Reply: It is considered good practice to use a hearing aid in the other ear to t...

Is it worth persevering with the hearing aid?

Enquiry: Balancing hearing aid with CI. I am wondering how does this work and what should be done to make this work. Currently I am not wearing a hearing aid in my other ear cos one I have a problem with the ear mould and second, I can't hear alot on that side. I find also that if I wear CI alone, I hear alot better with it for environmental sounds as then I pick up some of the finer quieter sounds which I dont seem to notice from the CI when I have my heari...

My hearing aid is more like very bass meaningless boom boom boom and the CI more like meaningless squawk squawk of a higher pitch. People have told me to keep the hearing aid in for stimul...

Is there any research to show the benefit of using an fm system with the Spirit 3SP as well as with her implant. I was wondering whether you were aware of any evidence based research that would support or reject the idea that CI and hearing aid fm systems can be used beneficially together Reply: There is research which shows that the bilat...

How much to use the new implant by itself?

Enquiry : I am currently working with a 5yr old boy recently implanted. He also wears 1 hearing aid. I visit 4 times a week for listening rehab sessions etc. At the moment I am working implant only for these sessions. He wears his implant and aid in class. His mum is also using implant only for much of his time at home. Is this the correct approach? After discussion with other professionals I am wondering whether we should be following this approach or working ...
