Volume control on the Freedom

Enquiry: A 13 year old student was complaining that the volume on her CI was too low. When I looked at it, following the instructions from Sounding Board on how to change the volume I couldn't make the 'V' for volume come up on the screen. I could make 'S' for sensitivity appear and change it but not the 'V'. Is there a reason for this?

Reply: Almost certainly the volume control on the processor has not been enabled. The volume has been set by the clinic and the user is not able to change it. It is very common for this to be the case especially with children and young people. Changing the sensitivity can make a difference to how the volume is perceived although it is actually reducing or increasing the scope and range of what is being heard rather than the sound level. If her complaint persists it is best to contact the clinic to make an appointment so that this can be investigated and improved if necessary. In any case, this should be mentioned at her next appointment.
